Theme: Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-Being, and Our Rights

To mark the United Nations International Day of Older Persons 2025, the Scottish Pensioners’ Forum (SPF), alongside its members and affiliates, held its annual demonstration outside the Scottish Parliament on 1st October 2025. This year’s theme highlighted the vital role older people play in shaping fairer, more resilient communities.

Theme: “Ageing with Dignity: The Importance of Strengthening Care and Support Systems for Older Persons Worldwide”

To mark the UN International Day of Older Persons 2024, the Scottish Pensioners’ Forum (SPF) held its annual demonstration outside the Scottish Parliament on Thursday 26th September 2024 bringing together campaigners, trade unionists, and community activists to highlight the urgent need for robust care and support systems for older people.

To mark the UN International Day of Older Persons 2023 on 29th September 2023, the Scottish Pensioners’ Forum (SPF) chose to celebrate in a new way by hosting a parliamentary reception inside the Scottish Parliament.

On 30th September 2021, the SPF held their yearly demonstration outside the Scottish Parliament to mark UN International Day of Older Persons and although the clouds decided to open as we arrived it certainly didn’t dampen our spirits.

The Scottish Pensioners’ Forum held its yearly demonstration outside the Scottish Parliament on Thursday 27th September 2018 to mark United Nations International Day of Older Persons. Over 70 affiliates and friends brought their banners along to show their support on the day.

To mark UN International Day of Older Persons 2017, the SPF, held a demonstration outside The Scottish Parliament on Thursday 28th September 2017 and called on Ministers and MSP’s to recognise that older people and pensioners’ are still active within their communities and will continue to campaign and demonstrate in order to effect change within society.

To mark UN International Older People’s Day 2016, the SPF, in conjunction with the STUC and other SPF affiliates and members, held a demonstration outside The Scottish Parliament calling for Ministers and MSP’s to recognise that older people and pensioners’ still have a major contribution to make in policy decisions and society as whole.
